Saira Rahman Khan is a Professor at the School of Law, BRAC University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. She is also a Chevening Scholar with a PhD in Socio-legal Studies from the University of Kent, Canterbury, UK. Prior to her appointment at BRAC University, she was Programme Director (Legal Unit) at the Acid Survivors Foundation. Saira has been involved in human rights-based advocacy and research since her undergraduate years and has been a contributor to newspaper columns relating to law and human rights issues for more than 25 years. She is a member of the international coalition Everywoman Everywhere and a founding member and currently Secretary of the human rights organization Odhikar. Odhikar focuses on civil and political rights and campaigns against torture and extrajudicial killings in Bangladesh. It was the first human rights entity to document and campaign against enforced disappearances in the country. She is also a member of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association.
